Tallinn is the capital city of Estonia. It was previously known by the German and Swedish name of “Reveal”. It was replaced to Tallinn from Tallinna when Estonia became independent in 1920. The largest source of the cities drinking water is Lake Ulemiste. The lake covers 9.6 km˛ and the highest point of Tallinn is only 64 meters above sea level. The city is an important seaport as well as an industrial, political and cultural center. In 1530 an old figure of a warrior called Old Thomas was placed on top of the town hall. It has since become the symbol for the city. Tallinn is home to about 400,000 people and is considered to have the highest population of non –EU nationals.
The property boom in Estonia has seen doubling of real estate prices within a two year period from 2004-2006. Estimated further growth has been predicted, despite the halt in recent development of price hikes. Kroon is the national currency of Estonia and if replaced with the Euro as planned, it is set to further an increase in real estate value. The buy to let market within the city is also furthering this growth.
