Estonia’s settling started after the ice age, around 8500 BC. Ruled partially by Denmark back in 1227 amongst the Livonian Order it became part of Sweden from the 16th century to 1721. The Russian Empire took over from there and ruled Estonia until 1991 when the USSR collapsed. It was then that Estonia became independent as its own country and they joined the European Union in 2004. The last Russian troops left Estonia in 1994 and since then the country has been free to engage into economic and political activities with the Western world. These days Estonia is also a member of the NATO.
With the drop of interest rates in recent history and the fierce competition between banks to keep them low, Estonia is at present a real estate investors dream. The new rise of the East of Europe has seen tremendous growth throughout those countries. Housing is cheap to buy and people are starting to realize that fortunes can be made. Maybe the fact that companies don’t have to pay income tax for re-investment profits contributes to the popularity of Estonia right now. With pleasant people and a decent standard of living it is certainly an attractive investment opportunity.
